A lot of homeowners choose to use their basements as extra living space. Often laying down carpet, putting up dry way and adding plumbing. Having the extra space is amazing, but there are some downfalls. basements often hold excess moisture. This is due to them being underground, and or the foundation shifting. A little bit of moisture can be controlled with dehumidifiers, and routine checks. This will usually keep moisture at a level that will not do much damage or allow mold growth. If you have a storm it is always a good idea to check and make sure excess water is not getting into your home, if it is make sure to contact a professional to try and resolve the situation.
